Finally got a chance to take this out after purchasing a while ago. Bought this for my early-start date AT thru-hike for protection from the elements, and this tarp delivers. Having the whole system put together ahead of time with everything you need is excellent for someone with limited tarp experience. The tarp is larger than I was expecting, which provides ample living space and wind/rain protection. My whole system, after removing a few things, is 14.5 oz, which is excellent. The owner is also very communicative and I have no doubt they will support me on trail should an issue arise.
Only complaints are that the price rose a lot recently, which doesn't make this any amazing deal anymore, and that the line locs for the tieouts are a bit finicky
Edit: the owner reached out very quickly and provided info on how to use the linelocs properly, as well as to why the price increased (DCF is getting more expensive)
I have been an avid hiker/hammocker for 10 years now and also a bit of a gear junkie. I have several hammocks and tarps of other brands. Some silpoly and others the DCF. Some of my other DCF tarps I am having to do repairs on because they are starting to tear at the tie out points. That's not a problem I have with my DCF tarp from R&R Hammocks though. With the way that R&R reinforces the tie out area with the Kevlar backing it is giving it extra strength and preventing it from causing the fibers to start to separate. They also feinforce the ridgeline with the Kevlar which I like better too because it keeps the tarp from bellying down in the center when I tie it out. All my others I get that dipping arch in the ridgeline. And because of the quality and workmanship that they put into their products I am currently having a hammock and bug net made which I will be doing a review on once I get them in. The only thing left after that will be quilts.
Right from the beginning they took the time to talk to me and answer questions via email. They kept me up to date on every step of my order personally. These guys are top shelf! I love my tarp and have had zero problems with it. It is well made with great stitching and reflective parts that easy to find it the dark.
I took out this tarp for the first time and found it was very easy to set up and well made with reinforced stitching at the attachment points, of which there are many for different set up options. Richard sent me 10 stakes and extra line to put the tarp into "porch mode" with my hiking sticks. I am endeavoring to go ultralight so I only took 4 stakes and was able to set up the tarp very securely and taut in porch mode. If I go on a longer back pack I will take more or all the stakes in order to deal with potential high wind situations and varying weather. I really appreciate that the tarp came with all the needed rigging and mesh snake skins. I am very happy with my purchase!
I've been a hammocker for over six years and have owned and tried quite a few hammocks and tarp setups. Living in FL which is notorious for its crazy sudden Thunder Storms and several section hikes a year in the Mountains where it can get cold really fast, I had been eyeing and dreaming of owning an Ultralight Dyneema door tarp to keep me dry and warm in such inclement weather. I recently made the switch to a complete R&R system which would included my dream tarp from R&R the Dyneema DCF Tarp with doors for a 10 day section hike of Virginia on the Appalachian Trail. The R&R gear totally rocked it and the was all that I could ask for in multiple nights of heavy rain and included wind gust up to 40+ miles an hour. The Tarp held fast against the intense winds and kept me dry with the doors closed up in the often side ways rain. This tarp comes complete with all the rigging and ready to hang and I love the free snakeskins that come with it as it makes it so easy to pack up and store in my pack. Thanks R&R and can't wait to get out with your ultralight gear again on my next backpacking adventure! :)
